Cynthia's Story

Cynthia Mendoza (patreng1309) shares how she got started on eBay and talks about the rewards of selling from the comfort of her home.

"I could not imagine the trust that total strangers can have for each other on eBay"

Q. How and when did you get started selling on eBay ?
A. It was actually through my sister-in-law. She buys a lot online. It was out of curiosity that I started browsing eBay.ph. I started buying clothes for my daughter and later tried my hand at selling my pre-owned items which were in very good condition like clothes, bags and toys. I was so happy when all my items were sold and I got good feedback from my buyers.

Q. What does eBay offer which you wouldn’t be able to find elsewhere?
A. eBay gives me the opportunity to conduct an international business from the comfort of my home. I now have a client base which extends beyond the Philippines. My regular buyers would even put in orders in advance which keep me busy for the entire month!

Q. How did you come up with your eBay ID? Does it hold any sentimental meaning ?
A. I came up with my eBay ID patreng1309 from the nicknames of my children. My son is Papat (Patrick) and my daughter is Treng-treng (Beatrice). They are my lucky charms.

Q. How has selling on eBay changed your life ?
A. Being self-sufficient and contribute towards my household income is something which eBay has enabled me to do. I can buy almost anything I want and even treat my entire family almost every weekend just through using "katas ng eBay".

Q. What tips would you give to people who are tired of the corporate world and want to be their own boss ?
A. I would advise people to try to sell online. Start with anything you have at home which is in excellent condition. Do an item search on eBay. Check to see if there are people selling the same item as you and at how much. From there, you can determine if there is a demand and how people do their listings. Please do not copy photographs and listings, take pride in your listing and be original!

Remember, if you invest your time and effort, you will see the benefits. Best of all, your time is your own to manage and you’ll be able to sell to the world from the comfort of your home!

Q. In a nutshell, what does eBay mean to you?
A. eBay offers the opportunity to start a business without much capital. For stay at home mothers, it’s an opportunity to earn extra income.
